In his new film, the Italian film director and Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino paints a lively portrait of two old friends named Fred (Michael Caine) and Mick (Harvey Keitel). They are taking a break in a luxurious Alpine resort and look back on their eventful lives as, respectively, conductor of an orchestra and director. In the meantime they share their no nonsense opinions of the hotel guests, the young students in Mick’s writers’ club and their adult children. When Fred receives an invitation from the Queen to perform at Prince Philip’s birthday, he has no intention of getting involved. In 2014, Sorrentino won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film with his previous film La Grande Belleza.
